About
The analysis used to value, acquire, and sell operating companies, applied within a sector where that discipline is uncommon and increasingly necessary.
The Firm
We bring the analysis used to value and buy operating companies into the nonprofit sector, where it is rare and increasingly needed. The tools are the same whether the buyer is an investor or a 501(c)(3). What changes is where the money goes afterward.
The measure we care about is how many additional dollars reach mission activities and how reliably they arrive. A recommendation that looks sound on paper but cannot be executed within the organization's exempt purpose, staffing, and governance is not worth making, so the work continues past the recommendation into pricing, structure, financing, and the donor ask when one is appropriate.
Engagements are scoped to one decision at a time. Boards get an answer, the numbers behind it, what execution would require, and a clear statement of when the organization should decline to proceed.
Founder
Dr. Jamie Klingman holds a doctorate in social enterprise, the field that studies how mission-driven organizations build and hold commercial revenue without losing what they exist to do. Her research and her consulting work address that question.
She has served on nonprofit boards across the range of the sector, from startup organizations securing their first funding through institutions with budgets above $30 million. That service covers writing a first set of bylaws, overseeing complex budgets and real property, and supervising professional staff and executive leadership.
Board service is also where the gap became obvious. Development leadership knows fundraising. Finance leadership knows reporting. Very few boards have anyone who can look at what the organization owns and say what a market would pay for it.
Go Unrestricted was built to answer that question for organizations that need it answered.
A conversation about what your organization owns, what it could earn, and how much of that would reach your programs.
